Why Shantanu Bhagwat is 100 times better than Arvind Kejriwal
For those who are smitten by the half-baked socialist Arvind Kejriwal (who simply refuses to listen to any sensible idea), here is a leader who is 100 times better. Shantanu, in this video, is explaining why ALL government schools and colleges in India should be privatised. I've, of course, outlined this in great detail in BFN.
I'm also attaching a little "slide" I had prepared yesterday for Facebook.

I agree with Shantanu on all points, other than the government being an auditor. The government has no job auditing the end product or service. Doing that would require giving vast discretionary power to bureaucrats, and this is a huge problem, even in some developed economies. The best regulation for products and services is the free market. There is a case for government auditing the business practices behind them, like finances, etc.

I don’t think all education system shud ever b privatised.!!! How can private schools be under competition to take the kids of EWS for coupons.!
the need of the hour is to make good the education system., and being a welfare state, its nvr a good idea to monoplise the primary and secondary edu. system,
& i feel that there is no better or worse thing as comparison with AK.!!! Both might hv their own area of beliefs and activist past.., comparing two ppl of the same side is to weaken both.,!!! Union is much better than division…!! good ppl shud cm togather than making their own marks.
Ashish, I wish I could support socialism. I would have, if it worked. But it can’t and will never do so.

Why don’t you try to prepare an education policy for the competition: http://freedomteam.in/policy
Have you ever talked to Amit Jogi, the son of former Chattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi ?
If you ask me, he has a better chance of getting elected MLA/MP and becoming a minister than Arvind Kejriwal …… and he is already a committed libertarian…….So, you won’t have to spend much of your valuable time teaching him Econ 101….. He even had a Fred Hayek fan club on Orkut:

Now, this person may not be as honest as Kejriwal (there was a bribery case against him)
but as Milton Friedman said (and you seem to be on the same page) , The goal should not be to elect the right people but to create a political climate where it is profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing…..
To this end, Jogi might be a better ally than Kejriwal….
Just my two cents.
Oh, and I need to add this…… Shantanu Bhagwat’s position is of course a zillion times better than that of Kejriwal, but even he doesn’t go far enough.
There is no need for the Government to inspect/regulate schools and make sure that they are upto the mark. Government officials will inevitably use that power to get bribes (like they do with restaurants now). They have no incentive to actually make sure that the schools are doing their job.
Market competition will take care of school quality.
All parents may not be educated, but they have a gut-feel about how smart their child is and whether he is doing as well an equally smart child in a different school. That is enough to make the market work.
We don’t need not education department bureaucrats :)

Indeed, but the point Shantanu making is valid. Should some minimum standard be breached by a school, government – as enforcer of contracts and justice, can audit. But no more. I believe schools should establish their own curricula, as well.
But this is a matter of detail.

It is very easy to create theories out of air, applying free market philosophy everywhere even in education. The basic thing that is missing from a market like that of education is estimating the quality of service (education) being provided by the private entities. I always believe that the more abstract and more complex a service is, the harder it is to privatize it. It is much more prone to be converted to a market for lemons. Such a thing happening for a vital service such as education is disastrous for a country.

Sorry, the Swedish experiment is NOT the voucher program that I have written about. This is a pointless debate since if the BASIC design features are wrong, the system will fail. Please try to understand that.
