Thoughts on economics and liberty

Rabi Kant Bharati’s condemnation of Hindutva violence (and my condemnation of Barun Mitra)

In this video, Rabi Kant Bharati, SBP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bhadohi, condemns the attempts by Hindutva fanatics to use violence against fellow Indian citizens in the name of religion/ cow/ love jihad.

Rabi is a very young man and an outstanding liberal. He is a quick learner and very capable communicator. We need thousands of Rabi’s to step forward to lead India.

The other day, when I had a spare moment while I was in India, I called Barun Mitra to request him to visit Bhadohi if he could, to support Rabi. Barun then started acted high and mighty, as if Rabi needed to somehow bow to Barun and prove his credentials to him first by visiting him in Delhi. I told Barun we don’t have time or money to do that. And that Rabi is SBP’s candidate. What more does he need?

Barun’s position is extremely offensive. SBP is a dead serious liberal political party – recognised on the international stage and in Indian’s major newspapers – and its electoral candidates are the best we can find – to offer to India. Our candidates DO NOT need to go to the Barun Mitras of India to be interviewed by them.

I detest these bogus Indian “liberals” like Barun who purport to support liberty but when the time comes to do so, start acting smart.

– AS IF THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE DONE ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY TO PROMOTE POLITICAL LIBERTY IN THEIR WHOLE LIFE. No, SBP owes these pseudo-liberals NOTHING. We have been struggling ALL ON OUR OWN and will continue to do so till we can. WE WILL TAKE OUR MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE. AND DON’T NEED ANY BARUN MITRAS AROUND US.

I’ve removed Barun from all communication, will auto-delete any future communication from him – and recommend that all liberals shun him henceforth.

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT STEP FORWARD TO SUPPORT SBP AND ITS CANDIDATES IS AN ENEMY OF LIBERTY. PERIOD.

We will go directly to the people and avoid all these bogus “intellectuals”.

Rabi is doing far more for liberty in India – at the grassroots – than a thousands Baruns could possibly do.

Great going, Rabi!

ADDENDUM

Some people have questioned my scathing criticism of Barun. My additional notes:

I had serious concerns about think tanks from the very beginning, but by now it is very clear to me that these are a lot of hot air. I have a very long history with all of these people. Everyone of these people has let me down.

Let me signal clearly my clear parting with these people who cannot do ANYTHING for liberty on the ground and sit in their cocoons weaving great tales about liberty.

Barun has a hectoring and lecturing approach but will do nothing.

Note that I’d not have felt offended if Barun had said he was unable to go. But what offended me was that he wanted me to send Rabi to meet him in Delhi first.

Sorry, none of us are here to be interviewed by Barun. That’s when I put the phone down.

We are struggling and fighting on the ground and ARE NOT SUBORDINATES OF BARUN. If he was even remotely interested, he’d have accepted my repeated (and regular) invitation to meet SBP leadership team during our regular annual meetings in Delhi. He has not bothered to attend to find out anything. But now he has the GALL to ask us to be interviewed by him!!

One thing is very important in politics: we must know who are our friends. And these high and mighty think tanks of “liberty” are NOT our friends.
