Dissertation

    Title           Institutions and the Old Age Security Motive for Fertility in Rural Thailand
    Advisor       Jeffrey B. Nugent
    Abstract     Test of theories of fertility, particularly the exchange model, based on micro-level data set. I model the demand for children as a function of expectation of old age care as well as the reliability of the implicit contract. Growth of opportunities for children is also controlled for.
