Detailed analysis of why advance funding (i.e. prior to elections) is fatal to the democratic process #1

A discussion has started somewhere re: state funding of elections. A claim is being made that the state should fund people who contest elections IN ADVANCE of the election results.

First, a list of my previous writings on this subject:

  1. Chapter 5 of Breaking Free of Nehru (this is the most critical document to read, first).
  2. Article on state funding in The Wire.
  3. My blog post on the Indrajit Gupta report [PDF], that includes PDF of my letter to Law Ministry rebutting the Gupta report.

WORD VERSION OF GUPTA REPORT AND MY LETTER TO LAW MINISTRY

I’ve spent 4 hours converting the Gupta report from PDF to Word and also my letter to the Law Ministry. The Word versions are more malleable and easy to use to cut-paste for commenting. Download these below: Gupta report | My letter to Law Ministry.

I’ll post my detailed analysis on further blog posts with this same title (#2, etc.) as time permits.
