Arguments made by defenders of Indian socialism and communalism (e.g. RSS)
I’m making note of some of the arguments people give to defend Indian socialism/ communalism and oppose liberty. These are mythological (and largely false) reasons, they carry on, nevertheless, till today.
I’ve addressed many such arguments elsewhere on this blog, but time permitting, will also rebut them here.
NEHRU DID THE RIGHT THING UNDER THE IMPERIALISTIC CIRCUMSTANCES
Great Historical speech of Pt Nehru (Congress session of 1929) at a time India was fighting against world’s dominant colonial power of that time. It is courage of conviction of a national leader in making that he spoke so eloquently about Socialism when feudal and Neo- capitalistic forces were at the helm of Congress party. The idea of equality, justice and democratic republic enshrined in our Constitution had its origin in this speech of Pt Nehru. India needs statesmen like Nehru.
No one can claim to have a magic wand to overnight build a nation which was liberated from the yoke of imperialism. That’s why our nation builders laid down a foundation, created institutions and vision to carry forward the mammoth task of nation building. So far our standing in the comity of nations, India was leader of NAM and had guts not to follow mighty Americans!
WE HAVE PROVIDED SCIENTISTS TO THE USA!!
India is not badly shaped, we have provided over 1,5 million 50,000 qualified doctors to the world, NSA an many international agencies have Indian origin without them they would fall.
WE ARE ALREADY GREAT
As per GDP in PPP (Purchasing Power Parity), India is world’s third largest economy, China having overtaken US (19 trillion USD v. 17 trillion of US), with India ranked 3rd.
Let’s at least call a spade a spade: that India is a miserably poor country with the world’s highest rates of corruption, total failure of justice, no infrastructure, the highest rates of death from traffic accidents, the lowest levels of freedom (virtually no freedom based on any comparison), mass illiteracy and ignorance, and the country from which there an ongoing desperate exodus of anyone who can get out. Etc. etc.
Do we all agree with these facts or not?
THESE ARE GREATEST LEADERS OF THE WORLD
The vision of Nehru and Gandhi, that so much venom can be spat on them by many, and yet nobody minds it. Our nation did not see the horrors of Vietnam, China, Russia, Europe and so many countries, thanks to the visionaries, the idea of a nation with multiple identities, religion, tolerance and overall peace was retained, the democratic expression was claimed by all, if you travel around, there is no sense of a failed nation, but I am not sure of the idea of a new, emergent India, now being celebrated with aggressive chants… try being overly dissenting in the emergent India, you might lick your wounds dears… the freedom we enjoy has been constructed with vision and love by the very greats who are now being decried, I could understand why the statues of Lenin were dismembered, but simply cannot understand the vicious rants against Nehru and Gandhi, unless it is a precondition of the emergent, terribly shrill India, which raises goose bumps of growing anxiety…
Gandhi is easily the greatest political figure of modern history, and Nehru would belong in any list of the 10 best heads of state in modern history.
CORRUPTION IS DUE TO THE HUGE POPULATION
huge population makes it impossible to correct the corrupt practices by awareness.
