There are likely to be many be perverse regulatory requirements that lead private airlines in India to bleed such huge losses. Mallya should oppose all such regulatory requirements. Indeed, he "has .. asked for a revision of guidelines under which all airlines have to earmark a share of their seats for services to the North-East and Jammu and Kashmir." [Source]
The government should leave the industry free to compete and work out all possible ways to survive profitably. Profitability is the only way of growth.
Instead of focusing purely on the removal of bad regulation, however, Vijay Mallya seems to have gone tipsy with a very clumsy suggestion:
Vijay Mallya, promoter of the cash-strapped Kingfisher Airlines, has demanded that state governments “underwrite seats” — or buy a certain number of seats — in every flight of Air India and private carriers. [Source]
He needs to get sensible advisors, else his reputation will soon become dust.
